(On the sidelines of the first Al-Azhar International Caricature Forum)
Based on the message of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, inclusive and university, and its vital religious, scientific, intellectual and educational roles, and based on the affirmation of the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, that the religion of Islam calls for peace, tolerance, human brotherhood and acceptance of the other, and within the framework of Al-Azhar's efforts to create cultural diversity Creative thinking around the world, opening the door to expressing human values and principles, drawing a bright future for the whole world, and complementing the initiatives offered by the Center for the Development of Foreign and International Students' Education in Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, headed by Professor Dr. / Nahla Al-Saidi; To spread Islamic culture and moderate moderate thought, and to identify and invest in real talents - the Center announces the launch of the "Al-Azhar International Caricature Competition" in its first session, under the patronage of the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and under the general supervision of the representative of Al-Azhar.
Competition starting points:
1- Al-Azhar's global message aimed at spreading a culture of coexistence and peace and confronting extremist and perverted thought throughout its long history spanning more than a thousand years.
2 - Emphasizing that Islam does not fight the arts, but rather guides and directs them in a direction that advances taste and humanity.
3- Religion and art are two main components of human culture throughout the ages. Religion elevates the soul, and art elevates feelings and emotions.
4- Art is a common human language, with all the feelings and emotions it carries among human beings, as it is a bridge for communication between cultures and brings nations and peoples closer.
5- The art of caricature is a universal language that can be understood and enjoyed at the level of the elite and the general public, and it has the ability to express and criticize in no less than other ways of expression, and there is no dispute that the expression in pictures is shorter than writing a thousand words.
6- Confronting the ideas of offensive cartoons; By affirming that the art of caricature deals with values that carry all meanings of love, brotherhood and tolerance.
7. Responding to the call of the Grand Imam and the door of the Catholic Church, and their demand that the “Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Coexistence” become a subject of discussion and reflection; To help create new generations that carry goodness and peace and defend human rights everywhere.
Competition objectives:
1- Emphasizing that the religion of Islam calls for peace, tolerance, human brotherhood and acceptance of the other, and it does not at all call for violence, extremism and terrorism as portrayed by the made phenomenon of "Islamophobia".
2- Investing in art that is loved by many people to correct the wrong image that some people have drawn and attached to Islam.
3- Disseminating the principles of the historical document (the Human Fraternity Document for World Peace and Coexistence).
4- Raising a generation from different countries of the world, with different cultures and ideologies, that defends moderate thought and tolerant human values and principles through cartoons.
5- Full attention and care for international students in Al-Azhar, especially those who are creative in the art of painting.
Competition Sections :
Section 1: Cartoon
The cartoon competition revolves around a number of values and principles advocated by the "Document of Human Fraternity for World Peace and Coexistence", which can be explained in the following axes:
1- The first and most important goal of religions is belief in and worshiping God.
2- The danger of religious and national extremism and intolerance.
3- The importance of awakening the moderate religious sense.
4- Religions were never a post for wars or a source of feelings of hatred and hostility.
5- Freedom is a right for every human being; A belief, thought, expression, and practice.
6- Justice based on mercy is the basis of a decent life.
7- Dialogue, understanding and spreading a culture of tolerance is a solution to social problems.
8- The protection of places of worship is a duty guaranteed by all religions.
9- Hateful terrorism is not a product of religion.
10- The concept of citizenship is based on equality in duties and rights.
11- The relationship between East and West is of utmost necessity for both of them.
12- Recognition of the right of women to education, work and the exercise of their political rights.
13- The rights of children to family upbringing, nutrition, education and care.
14- Protecting the rights of the elderly, the vulnerable and those with special needs is a religious and societal imperative.

Section 2: Portrait Drawing (Non-Caricature Portrait)
This section revolves around drawing a portrait that combines the eminence of the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and His Holiness Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican.
Competition Conditions

1- The maximum limit for a participant is to send 3 fees in each section of the competition.
2- Business size A3 or A4, provided that the size of work does not exceed 2 MB.
3- Submit your works in (JPG - 300 dpi) format.
4- The participant sends a short CV that does not exceed 3 lines, his address, contact methods, and his entire bank account.
5- The artist's name, nationality and country shall be written on the submitted work.
General Terms:
1- The works must be original and new and have not participated in any other competitions.
2- The organizer has the right to publish the works of participating artists in posters, magazines, newspapers and websites inside and outside Egypt. With the aim of promoting the event, without obtaining prior permission.
3- The rules of non-cartoon portraiture are adhered to.
4- A requirement for drawing a portrait is indicative of the brotherhood and affection that characterize the meetings of the Grand Imam with His Holiness Pope Francis.
5- The decisions of the arbitration committee are final and cannot be objected to.
6- A certificate of participation is given to all the artists whose works have been accepted.
7- A brochure will be created that includes the works, the participating parties, and an overview of each artist.
8- The Screening and Judging Committees shall exclude works that do not comply with the terms of the competition, or that do not respect the values and principles.

Winners will be announced Tuesday, 8/17/2021. Via Al-Azhar's online portal and media channels, and announcing the date of the "1st Al-Azhar International Caricature Forum".
The forum includes a major celebration to hand out prizes, honor winners and participants, and workshops for foreign students studying in Al-Azhar to teach the principles of caricature and the principles of portraiture, provided that a distinguished group of cartoonists and art professors will teach in the workshops, and the students participating in the workshops will hold an independent exhibition on the closing day. For the forum, and the distinguished are honored with certificates of appreciation and ten incentive awards, each award is worth $ 100.
