The El Sauzal City Council and the Cine+Comics Foundation pay tribute to Quino through the Mafalda International Illustration Competition
Original works can be submitted until May 15th and those that are chosen will be part of a face-to-face exhibition that can be visited in the municipality of Sauza from mid-June.
The municipality of El Sauzal is one of the strongest advocates for culture in northern Tenerife. One example of this commitment is the recent installation of a sculpture of Mafalda, the iconic character created by the Argentinian cartoonist Quino, in front of the municipal theater. Given the interest this statue has generated among residents and visitors, the El Sauzal Town Council and the Cine+Cómics Foundation have decided to organize the Mafalda International Illustration Competition (a tribute to Quino).
The competition is open to anyone over 18 years of age, regardless of their country of origin or residence, given its international nature. Participants can reinterpret Mafalda and her world of characters in their own style, while respecting the fundamental values represented by Quino's comic strip. Each contestant may submit a total of three works by the closing date, May 15th.
This initiative will not only generate more cultural activity surrounding sculpture, but will also integrate El Sauzal into the celebration of the next edition of the Tenerife International Comics and Illustration Fair, since the winning artwork will become one of the convention posters. In addition, a total of thirty illustrations will be selected for an exhibition that will be open to the public in the El Sauzal Town Hall Exhibition Hall from June 19th. Posters that are not selected but that adhere to the competition rules will be part of a virtual exhibition that can be viewed permanently on the Foundation's website.

The deadline for submitting the works and the necessary documentation to compete ends on May 15, 2026 , at 23:59 Canary Islands time.

The contest organizers are not responsible for any claims or for any harm or injury that may be caused to any person by their portrayal in the submitted works.
